NEC Disaster Recovery Fault Tolerant Solution

The new Disaster Recovery Fault Tolerant (FT) Solution from NEC Solutions America provides organizations the protection they need against any type of server disaster.

Disaster recovery has become a critical concern for organizations today, challenging IT departments to find a solution that provides continuous availability without breaking the budget.  The Disaster Recovery Fault Tolerant Solution from NEC Solutions America has the unique advantage of combining fault tolerant server capabilities with new clustering software-providing instantaneous data recovery for local server failures, as well as WAN connectivity for offsite backup data in major disasters.

This paper discusses today's options for ensuring business continuity by protecting mission critical data in the event of the destruction of local computing resources and how NEC's solutions can provide every company with an affordable way to allow surviving resources to continue working with access to the latest data after a disaster

The Disaster Recovery Fault Tolerant (FT) Solution provides a unique combination of two Express5800 fault tolerant servers; EXPRESS CLUSTER ® software; two NEC's S1300 storage array; and a comprehensive package of services, support and training.

This unique solution surpasses anything on the market today for disaster recovery availability, and gives organizations the protection they need against any type of server disaster.

Key Features

  • Fault Tolerant servers provide continuous availability
  • WAN connectivity synchronizes databases for complete redundancy
  • Provides up to 99.999% application uptime
  • FastSync journaling capabilities minimizes re-synchronization time
  • Supports Microsoft ®  SQL Server, Windows Exchange, Oracle and DB2

Active / Active Configuration

The NEC Disaster Recovery FT Solution requires two network connections. Each fault tolerant server is connected to the corporate network, with an additional WAN connection that synchronizes the two servers to provide complete redundancy in the event of a major disaster.

For small and medium-sized businesses, BusinessGrids Networks can provide the Site B server site, providing Active/ Active disaster recovery at reduced expense.

Fault Tolerant Capabilities on the Local Network

The hardware component of the Disaster Recovery FT Solution includes NEC fault tolerant servers in each of the two local sites.  This feature provides up to 99.999% continuous uptime. This eliminates downtime because there is no single point of failure, and prevents any data from being lost.

FULLY-SYNCHRONIZED DATABASES FOR GEOGRAPHICAL DISASTERS

The Disaster Recovery FT Solution incorporates two separate network connections to each fault tolerant server: one to the corporate network and one to a wide area network (WAN). The dedicated WAN connection enables synchronization of databases, so each server is able to support local applications, as well as host applications running on the remote server.

In the event of a major disaster such as a fire, tornado, or earthquake at Site A, the corporate network redirects users to Site B, where they can quickly log back into their accounts with fully-updated data. (see diagram above)
